Silas: Five Months

Dear Silas,

I wish I could convey to you how much you add to our house.  Your smiles and giggles are contagious.  You are irresistible- from your chubby cheeks to your cute little toes.

One new development in this past week is that you laugh hysterically at Caleb's antics.  I have never heard a baby laugh this hard, in fact, I didn't know it was possible!  It began for the first time last Sunday.  I yelled for Daddy to come before the moment passed, and we were all laughing at your laughter.  Then, a couple of days ago, Caleb was mad at me and slapping himself to let me know it, and you thought he was so funny, that you began laughing!  Not just a wee little laughter, but a hearty laugh!  You were giggling so hard, that Caleb started laughing, and I did, too!  You, my little love, turned an entire situation around and made it so much better!

If you ever wonder why God put you on this earth... I am seeing from your early days what a bright light you are!

You are getting so strong that changing you is becoming a wrestling match for me.  I keep joking that I should have taken a weight training class or perhaps a wrestling course in college!  It is a workout, and exhausting!  You have rolled over from tummy to back, and back to tummy, though you still don't do it a lot.

You still are not sleeping through the night, and this is very hard on me.  With Caleb, it did not affect me as much, but with two children, I cannot possibly relax during the day or take a nap myself.  I have avoided the same mistakes I made with Caleb, and yet, here we are.  In many ways, you are ahead of where he was at this same age, but you are still struggling.  We will prevail sooner or later, and for all those that are just shaking their heads at me while reading this and saying, "You just need to let him cry-it-out" (which we have done here and there), for now, we need to walk this road, as hard as it is.

I just put you in nine-month clothes... that is how big you are!  I even have started putting you in twelve-month sleepers, because the fleecy winter ones have no stretch to them, and you are a chubby little fellow!  Goodness, you are growing so fast!  Pretty soon you'll be shoveling snow with Daddy and helping to carry groceries for Mommy!

Clearly, you belong here.  Caleb loves you and gives you kisses all the time, and he loves it when I lay you next to him in his crib.  (Someday... you will be in there, I hope.  One thing at a time.)  And you, my little love, love him, too!  Daddy and I can both make you laugh, but it is nothing compared to what Caleb can do!  I am SO HAPPY the two of you have each other.  I would not go back and have a girl in your place, even if I could do so.  You are our Silas, and we love you!

Don't grow too fast, my darling!  One day, you will grow up and leave me, as you should.  But for now, let me cherish these days of snuggling you, cheek-to-cheek, and kissing your toes!

I love you so much!

Love,
Your mama

Christmas Pics

Better late than never!  Here are some pictures from the month of December.  There were plenty more photos taken on Christmas Day, but many of those featured me in the background with the boys, in my pjs.  While they are nice pjs, I'm not putting me in them on the internet!

We loved our first Christmas as a family of four!
